The trend of the current textile industry is not only about yarns from organic sources, but it also gradually shifts to production from recycled materials. Consumers are slowly transiting their consumption habits to sustainable fashion, which is more concerned for the environment and prioritizes eco-friendly products.
Among products from the transition, Recycled Yarn is considered the first choice with 3 main lines: Recycled Filament, Recycled Staple, Recycled Melange. This durable, flexible yarn gets its name from the ability of recycling post-consumer plastic bottles into an entirely new wearable material. So how did all those used plastic bottles in your bin turn into a soft, comfortable fabric? So let’s find the answer from the Recycled Filament yarn article below.
Recycled Filament is made entirely from post-consumer plastic bottles. The bottles, after being collected, will be taken to a certified manufacturing process to ensure the quality of the finished yarn, and then transformed through dyeing technology to create garments.
Recycled Filament is seen as a leading choice of sustainable fashion trends and conscious consumption. Recycled filament yarn is processed through a high-tech production process, which helps to reduce the amount of waste released into the environment, contributing to the protection of natural resources.
In the Recycle collection, they have many similarities in the manufacturing process, but the biggest difference is that Recycled Filament is continuous fiber and Recycle Spun is staple fiber.

Recycled Filament yarn is manufactured with complex technology but brings many environmental benefits. The production process of Recycled Filament yarn helps to diminish the impact on the environment as follows:
1. Selecting input sources: Collect post-consumer plastic bottles, non-biodegradable PET/polyester plastic bottles.
2. Raw processing: Sort, clean and unlabel the bottles, then the bottles are chopped into flakes which are cleaned again, and then melted in order to form into chips.
3. Spinning: There are two methods to produce Recycled polyester from chips after raw processing:
Recycled Filament yarn is recycled, although, still retains most of the structure and properties of Polyester fiber, by applying current advanced technology to the production process. Simultaneously, this process makes clothes made from Recycled Filament yarns superior to regular products: resist stretch and wrinkle, easy to wash and care, efficiently mildew-proof and water-resistant.
Recycled Filament yarn can be processed through Dope Dyeing or Fiber Dyeing technology to produce durable and quality garments.
Garment products from the Recycled Filament yarn are manufactured sustainably, continuing to recycle products after being used, minimizing landfill to the environment, creating a production loop – use – recycle – produce – use.
The Recycled Filament production process does not require the unnecessary exploitation of new oil, reducing the need for new oil depletion. Producing recycled polyester has 55% less CO₂ emissions and consumes 53% less energy than virgin polyester.
In addition, thanks to its good absorbency and quick-dry, antibacterial and deodorizing, and lightweight, Recycled Filament is the optimized material for outdoor and sportswear.
By retaining most of the structure of the virgin Polyester fiber, Recycled Filament yarn is widely applicable, used as material of various textile items, such as casual clothes, lingerie and interior design.
In addition, thanks to its good absorbency and quick-drying, antibacterial and deodorizing, UV blocking and ultralight weight, Recycled Filament is the optimized material for outdoor and sportswear.
On account of being manufactured from recycled plastic materials, many people concern about the quality and safety of Recycled Filament yarn when put into use. Therefore, to verify the quality of products in the garment market, standards for evaluating safe recycling production processes have been introduced (GRS/GOTs, OEKO-TEX,…). Standard Recycled Filament yarn must achieve one of the above certifications, to ensure the quality of the product for consumers.
GRS (Global Recycle Standard) is considered the most complete international standard to evaluate the following criterias: input recycled material composition, the process of custody of recycled products, limited usage of chemicals and its impacts on society and the environment. The GRS standard is used to define recycled content in the ISO 14021 standard.
Greenyarn’s Recycled Filament yarn is manufactured and processed with the latest technology, meeting GRS standards, committed to the quality of the product for consumers: Completely safe for your skin.
