Are you looking for an eco-friendly fiber to diversify your products, enhance brand value, and stay competitive? Ananas pineapple fiber might be the solution you’re seeking. With its closed-loop process and exclusive “cottonization” technology, cottonized pineapple fiber is ready for spinning, enabling mass production of blended yarns. These are ideal for creating Ananas fabric to meet diverse needs in fashion, home textiles, and accessories. Explore Greenyarn’s insights into the production process, key advantages, and practical applications of this sustainable fiber.
Ananas fiber is a natural, eco-friendly material derived from pineapple leaves, a common agricultural byproduct in Southeast Asia. Historically regarded as a luxury fabric in the Philippines, it faded from use due to complex, costly manual production. Today, with the rise of sustainable practices, Vietnam has successfully revived this eco-fiber, producing it in bulk under the name Ananas.
Unlike traditional methods, modern Ananas fiber production uses an advanced process that extracts consistent, high-quality fibers. These fibers are cottonized for mass production, making them ready for spinning into versatile, blended yarns.
The process of producing Ananas yarn from pineapple leaves is an environmentally friendly recycling process, carried out through the following steps:
+Harvesting Pineapple Leaves: The process begins by collaborating with farmers and cooperatives in provinces such as Điện Biên, Ninh Bình, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An, and Tiền Giang to harvest pineapple leaves, utilizing the natural resources of pineapple after cultivation.
+Extracting Raw Pineapple Fiber: After harvesting, the leaves are processed to extract raw fiber in the material region using semi-automatic machines and an automated extraction line developed by Ecofa Vietnam. This process does not use chemicals, ensuring environmental safety and only retains long and uniformly colored fibers.
+Fiber Cottonization: The raw pineapple fiber is transported to the factory for “cottonization.” This crucial step aims to remove impurities such as hemicellulose, lignin, and pectin. Using specialized equipment, the raw fiber is cut, opened, and combed into fibers of quality comparable to cotton in terms of length, fineness, durability, and moisture content.
+Mass Production of Pineapple Fiber: This step is critical to the success of large-scale pineapple fiber production since previous manual methods could not produce sufficient quantities of fiber suitable for spinning and blending on a large scale. Ecofa Vietnam has perfected the production process and equipment, leading to breakthroughs in the industry.
+Spinning and Blending Yarns: After cottonization, the cottonized pineapple fibers are sent to the spinning mill operated by Greenyarn (the eco-fiber brand of Bảo Lân Textile). Ananas pineapple yarns can be blended with various eco-fibers, such as organic cotton, silk, wool, and Biocell bamboo, to create diverse products.
+Weaving into Finished Fabrics: Ananas yarns can be used to weave popular fabrics such as denim, T-shirts, terry cloth, woven fabrics, and knitted fabrics. These products cater to various fields, from apparel to accessories, home goods, and interior decor.
Ananas yarn: Eco-Friendly Production Process
+Natural Materials from Vietnam: Ananas fabric fibers are produced from raw fibers extracted naturally from pineapple leaves harvested in the pineapple fields of Vietnam.
+Environmental Friendliness in Farming Practices: Through the “Agricultural Waste Recycling Solution for Pineapple Fiber and Other Products,” the exclusive partners of Greenyarn and Bảo Lân Textile work directly with farmers growing pineapples in Điện Biên, Ninh Bình, Thanh Hóa, and Nghệ An (with a growing list of localities).
+The extraction of pineapple fibers from leaves is done without bleaching chemicals, preserving the natural properties of the raw pineapple fibers during the conversion to “cottonized” pineapple fibers. This results in Ananas fibers that are strong, fine, long, and uniformly thin, rich in natural beneficial qualities. Consequently, Ananas fabric is smoother, softer, more elastic, and more durable than fabrics produced using traditional extraction methods.
The large-scale production process of Ananas is carefully monitored for environmental friendliness in farming, addressing the drawbacks of hand-made pineapple fabric, such as:
+Versatile Blending: After cottonization, Ananas fibers meet industry standards and can be customized for blending with other eco-friendly fibers, like organic cotton, silk, wool, and Biocell bamboo. This allows for adjustments in softness, drape, stiffness, and structure.
+Diverse Weaving Applications: Ananas yarn can be woven into various popular fabric types, including denim, jersey, terry cloth, woven fabrics, and knitted fabrics.
+High Strength: Ananas yarn are stronger and more durable than many other natural fibers, making them ideal for creating long-lasting apparel and accessories.
+Natural Odor Control & Antimicrobial Properties: Ananas effectively manage natural odors and inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold that cause body odors, eliminating 88% of ammonia smell, 90% of acetic acid odor, and 90% of isovaleric acid odor.
+Natural UV Resistance: The fibers possess a natural UPF 50+ UV protection rating, allowing Ananas fabrics to resist harmful sun exposure.
+Durable and Color Retaining: The fine, long, smooth, and elastic structure of Ananas fibers makes them resistant to fraying, durable, and able to hold color longer while being less wrinkled than hand-made pineapple fabrics.
+Breathable: The lightweight fibers have excellent thermal transfer capabilities, helping to cool the skin, making them suitable for tropical climates.
+Good Moisture Absorption and Quick Drying: Ananas fibers efficiently absorb moisture and dry quickly.
+Biodegradable: These fibers decompose naturally, making them environmentally friendly.
These features have been certified by the Textile Research Institute of Ho Chi Minh City (VTRSI-TTC) and the Nissenken Testing and Research Institute (Japan):
Ananas fiber is highly adaptable to various weaving styles, including knitting, weaving, flat knitting, and non-woven fabrics.
